Try: “Pasta for two at seven. Recipe is in the shared plan. Tomatoes are in the fridge; dry pasta is in the cupboard. Please check whether we need more parsley.”

That covers the meal, portions, location and one open question. The cook can get started without reconstructing your afternoon.

Flag the bit that changed

If you swapped dinner or bought a different ingredient, say so. Include anything still missing and any prep you’ve already done.

Don’t promise “ten minutes” unless that covers the actual work. A bag of unchopped vegetables has not, technically, been prepped.

Hand over a decision, too

Agree what the next person can decide themselves. Can they skip the optional garnish? Pick a different side? Move dinner half an hour?

Keep ingredient restrictions and safety requirements clear. A handoff should reduce questions without making someone guess about a detail that matters.
