Change the smallest thing
If you’ve lost cooking time, could the dinner move to another night? If someone’s joining you, would changing portions solve it?
Name the problem before replacing the meal. You might need a simpler side, not five new dinner ideas.
Give the groceries a destination
Say tonight’s plan was pasta with tomatoes and spinach. Move the pasta night if the ingredients will still be suitable, or choose something tonight that uses what’s already in the kitchen.
Check ingredient condition and storage directions before deciding anything can wait. A calendar move doesn’t extend shelf life.
For each purchased ingredient, decide: keep it with the moved meal, use it in the replacement, or make a separate plan for it.
Tell the person with the shopping basket
Check the shared list after the change. Remove anything you no longer need to buy, but keep track of what’s already purchased.
If someone else is heading to the shop, send the change before they leave. “We’re doing something different” needs to arrive before the second bag of spinach.
